Report: Travolta Extortion Plot Under Investigation

As John Travolta and Kelly Preston continue to grieve over the loss of their teenage son, Jett, a report from the Bahamas surfaced Thursday claiming that individuals are attempting to blackmail the family for millions.

According to Bahamian news channel ZNS, there is an open investigation into an alleged extortion scheme against the Travoltas.

And according to TMZ, several individuals are allegedly demanding $20 million from the actor, but contrary to some reports, “the alleged extortion attempt does not involve pictures of Jett as he was dying.”

Police have not released investigation details, but according to ZNS, they are trying “to determine whether not a criminal offense was being committed” by the alleged extortionists.

As previously reported on Access Hollywood.com, Travolta family lawyers Mike Ossi and Howard Butle issued a statement to the media over the reports.

“Regrettably in a time of such terrible grief, there are often a few individuals who attempt to make false claims in hopes of making millions of dollars,” their statement read, according to the Jacksonville Florida Times-Union. “We will never let that happen.”

The lawyers added that they have “the utmost confidence in the Bahamian police and government.”
