Punk Rock Returns to Adams Morgan

Look at Adams Morgan these days, it's hard to imagine it's role in punk rock in the '80s. Even harder to imagine Madam's Organ as a host to the bands that created D.C.'s seminal scene back then. Even Asylum seems to struggle to hold its punk hand high anymore in a neighborhood now awash in trendy nightlife that crawls under a blanket of jumbo slice every night at bedtime.

But punk is coming back Thursday, even if only for one night, CultureMob reports.

Affinity Lab -- above The Diner at 2451 18th St. NW -- is hosting a nostalgic multimedia look back at the punk ol' days from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Thursday. Listen to the music, peruse some artifacts and watch archival footage of the days when D.C. was one of the toughest rock towns in the country.

The main attraction (if the refreshments and raucous soundtrack don’t entice you enough) is the 70 minutes of rare video painstakingly compiled, featuring local punk staples such as Fugazi, Bad Brains, Government Issue, Bikini Kill, Minor Threat, Nation of Ulysses and many more. In addition, commentary will be provided alongside the video by Mark Andersen (author of "Dance of Days: Two Decades of Punk in the Nation’s Capital").

Proceeds from the suggested $8 donations will go to local charity We Are Family, but space is limited, so book your free ticket via EventBrite ahead of time.
