Bloggers rejoice!
The Pulitzer Prize committee announced rule changes Monday that will make Internet content eligible for the prestigious award given by Columbia University.
The guidelines, which will go into effect for the upcoming 2009 prizes, require that text-based Web news outlets publish at least weekly and be primarily dedicated to original news reporting and coverage of ongoing stories.
Pulitzer Administrator Sig Gissler said that printed magazines and broadcast media and their Web sites are still not eligible.
"This is an important step forward, reflecting our continued commitment to American newspapers as well as our willingness to adapt to the remarkable growth of online journalism," Gissler said in a release.
