Police Investigate String of Attacks on Gay Men

One Suspect May Be Linked to Other Crimes

A suspect in a fatal stabbing is in jail -- and now police are trying to figure out if he may be linked to other attacks on gay men throughout the District.

Marcus McLean, 24, was arrested in connection with the Aug. 8 murder of Delondo King. Police say the two men met at the Omega Bar near Dupont Circle, and then went back to King's apartment. McLean was later caught on surveillance video leaving the apartment alone. Police say he was carrying a bright green reusable grocery bag filled with items from Kingโ€™s apartment.

King was later found stabbed 30 times. Five of the wounds penetrated his heart. Police also say the suspect tried to cover up DNA evidence by dousing Kingโ€™s body in bleach.

McLean was arrested Aug. 14 in connection with the murder.

Investigators believe that less than nine hours after the murder, McLean used Kingโ€™s credit card at the Regal movie theater in Silver Spring. The card was used again after that to buy a shirt at City Place Mall. An employee there told police he knew the man as "gay Marcus" and that he was known to frequent that mall.

Investigators are now going over old cases to determine if McLean is linked to other crimes. Police believe there could be crimes that went unreported.
