Hit up the launch Party at FotoWeek Central 1, 2, 3 & 4 (between 33rd and 34th streets N.W.). View central exhibits and sample cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, Nov. 6 (6:30 p.m.). Tix are $15 online or $20 at the door.

There are seven designated venues  in all (see the full guide here). Plus, a series of lectures and portfolio reviews will feature some of the renowned judges. Competition categories include Fine Art, News/Feature Reporting and Travel. More than $20,000 in cash prizes will be awarded, including $5,000 for the "Spirit of Washington."

Are you a photographer and want to participate? Get in on NightVisions (3388 M St. N.W.), an all-night spontaneous creation of images. Create your image(s) between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. on Nov. 7-8. Then submit your pics, and nationally recognized photo editors will choose an image from each photographer. The photos will be displayed to the public for the whole week. Free snacks, coffee and music will be provided -- and if you're buyin', keep in mind there's also a cash bar.
