Organic Gelato Shop Opens in Penn Quarter

Pitango Gelato opens fourth location this weekend

It's the kind of sweet, refreshing treat worth standing in line for. And you may have to when Pitango Gelato opens Saturday in Penn Quarter.

The popular gelateria is known for its organic gelatos and sorbets in flavors that make your mouth water. All the offerings are made with grass-fed, organic milk and fresh organic fruit and nuts. They contain no artificial flavors, colors or processed ingredients of any kind. Fans of the shop say you can taste the difference. And it's healthy too! Healthier than regular ice cream, that is.

The founder and CEO, Noah Dan, uses traditional Italian techniques to make gelato and sorbet, with an "obsessive" focus on pure, simple ingredients. He built his own dairy on Spring Wood Organic Farm in Lancaster County, Pa., to ensure the highest quality milk possible is used in his product.

Dan also seeks out the finest local, organic fresh fruit, bought in peak season. And because it's gelato, it has less fat than regular ice cream.

Of course, all of those fresh ingredients will cost you.  Quality doesn't come cheap.

The new shop opens at 413 7th St., NW, between D and E streets. Penn Quarter is one of the fastest growing food and entertainments corridors in the city. Pitango's other locations are Logan Circle, Baltimore's Fells Point and Reston Town Center. Crowds form outside the store on the weekends. It's that good. Get in line now!
