Police Serving Order to Remove Guns Shoot, Kill Armed Man

Police in Maryland say an officer shot and killed a man while serving a protective order to remove guns from his Glen Burnie home.

The officers were serving a "red flag" protective order at a home in the 100 block of Linwood Avenue, near Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

The red flag law, which went into effect Oct. 1, enables families and law enforcement to ask courts for an order to temporarily restrict firearms access to people found to be a risk to themselves or others.

Police spokeswoman Jacklyn Davis says the man answered the door with a gun in hand, put it down and then picked it up again. A struggle over the gun ensued, during which it went off. An officer then shot and killed the man.

No officers were injured.
