Officer Faces Charges in Dog Park Shooting

Police release 911 call from officer who shot dog

The police officer that sparked outrage after shooting a Siberian husky at an Anne Arundel County dog park could go to jail for the incident.

Officer Keith Shepherd, 32, will be charged with animal cruelty and discharging a firearm within 100 feet of an occupied structure.

Three-year-old Bear Bear was shot Aug. 2 at the Quail Run Community Dog Park in Severn, Md.

Bear Bear became very excited when another dog arrived. That dog belonged to an off-duty Army police officer.

Shepherd shot Bear Bear because he was attacking his dog, according to his 911 call shortly after the incident.

Bear Bear’s owners don’t agree that their husky was a threat.

On Monday, dozens of people rallied outside the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office demanding Shepherd be charged.

Shepherd could spend up to nine months in jail if convicted on both charges.
