Nicole McLean at Blogalicious DC: I Write to Keep Sane

Blogger Nicole McLean was among the social media mavens at the Blogalicious DC networking event who said blogging is cathartic for her.

"I blog to bring awareness and compassion," McLean, a breast cancer survivor, said. "I blog to erase some of the fear that the words breast cancer ring a death bell."

"The words 'breast cancer' doesn't have to be that scary. It can be but it doesn't have to be."

McLean, who pens My Fabulous Boobies, was one of four panelists who gave expert advice on building social media networks for government agencies, corporations and non-profits.

Participants also discussed cutting-edge technologies, the latest trends in social media and privacy concerns on the Web. Ceci Connolly, a veteran journalist at The Washington Post, moderated the discussion.
