New Workers' Center Opens in Prince George's County

Largest workers' center in the county

There is a new place for day laborers to get work in Prince George's County.

A new workers' center opened in Langley Park Wednesday.

The center was designed to serve residents from a number of communities that include Langley Park, Adelphi and Hyattsville.

Residents in nearby Silver Spring and Takoma Park in Montgomery County can also use the center.

Casa de Maryland worked with the county to open the site, which is now the largest workers' center in Prince George's County.

The center will include a state-of-the-art vocational training lab, which will be operated in partnership with Prince George's County Community College.

"This center is a historical stepping stone for empowering low-wage immigrant and minority workers living in these communities.  Our leaders understand that in this current economic crisis, education, training and workforce development programs for workers are essential to improving our economy," said  Gustavo Torres, Executive Director of Casa de Maryland.
