"Six Days in Fallujah" will reenact actual events - not imagined scenarios - as the backdrop for what occurs in the game.
Creator Peter Tamte of Atomic Comics consulted more than thirty soldiers who served in Fallujah, as well as a bevy of photographs and classified satellite imagery to provide an accurate display of the war's landscape.
The program follows a six-day timeline that soldiers in Fallujah lived - a quality that Tamte said will make the experience more like a documentary than a video game.
"We replicate a specific and accurate timeline -- we mean six days literally," Tamte told the Journal.
"We track several units through the process and you get to know what it was like from day to day," he said.
In the game, users will be forced to make choices that real soldiers in Iraq were faced with - whether or not to shoot a potential hostile, where to hide out from enemy forces, or when to advance.
"The decisions you make in the game -- we can make you someone else," Tamte said.
"Six Days in Fallujah" will be released next year by Konami Media, the game's publisher.
