Saturday Is National Get Outdoors Day

Skip the heavy weekend brunch and get outdoors.

National Get Outdoors Day is Saturday, June 11 at the Kingman and Heritage Islands Park (575 Oklahoma Ave. N.E.).

The event , which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., seeks "to get people connected with their natural resources and to live a life of wellness," said Matt English, program coordinator at Kingman Islands.

Activities include fishing, canoeing, cycling, nature walks, rock climbing and tennis. Instructors will also be on hand to teach you the basic skills.

The day also features live music from the Bluegrass bands (1-8 p.m.), our beloved food trucks and giveaways such as fishing poles, camping gear and two bikes.

National Get Outdoors Day is in conjunction with first lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move Campaign and is taking place in different spots across the nation Saturday.
