While the Nationals were taking the city by storm this summer, you may have forgotten that there is a WNBA team in Washington. To be fair, you might have forgotten that fact regardless.
Speaking of forgettable, the Mystics wrapped up their season Saturday in a 77-58 loss to the Chicago Sky, dropping their record to 5-29.
But as we know very well around these parts (sadly), a poor record means a chance to grab the best prospect in the upcoming draft (seriously, the D.C. area has had three No. 1 draft picks since 2009 -- John Wall, Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper -- not to mention a No. 2 overall pick in Robert Griffin III).
Wednesday, the Mystics, Sky, Phoenix Mercury and Tulsa Shock will vie for the top pick in next April's WNBA Draft. Washington has the best chance to earn the top spot at 44.2 percent. The lottery will air live at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
Top prospects include Baylor's Brittney Griner, Notre Dame's Skylar Diggins and Delaware's Elena Delle Donne.
