Three Local Restos Make “Most Romantic” List

3 out of 100, but we'll take what we can get

Just in time for you to eat tiny posh food for Valentine's Day, Open Table's new list of Most Romantic Restaurants includes three local spots.

Sure, out of 100, only landing three may not seem so hot, but this is the land of government workers and pleated khakis, so we'll take what we can get.

The only District resto to make the list, Plume at the Jefferson Hotel (1200 16th St. NW), serves diners in cozy nooks or fireside. You'll find a hand-painted mural of Monticello's south vineyard, and a seasonal menu inspired by Monticello's gardens. You won't be celebrating Valentine's Day here, though -- it's booked solid, Feb. 11-15. There's still room on Feb. 10 and Feb. 16 if you're willing to be flexible.

Also on the Top 100 list, the Elkridge Furnace Inn (5745 Elkridge Ave., Elkridge, Md.) opened as a tavern in 1744, with internal architecture still dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Unlike Plume, the inn is still taking reservations for V-Day. Prix fixe dinners are $65 per person for three courses, or $75 for four.

Café Renaissance (163 Glyndon St. SE, Vienna, Va.) -- complete with murals of ballet dancers -- serves French fare in a relaxed, but "sensual" atmosphere. (Their words, not ours.) They're booked for Valentine's Day, but have openings on the weekend before.
