MiG Bar Quietly Debuts in Adams Morgan

Possibly overlooked in the hubbub surrounding the opening of Jack Rose last week was another Adams Morgan bar debut, this one on a smaller scale. MiG Bar, the combined effort of Van Hillard and Chad McCall (formerly of Luna Bar and Grill and Iron Horse, respectively) is a small, laid-back bar and lounge situated above Rendezvous Tavern at 2226 18th Street NW.

Considering the bar's aeronautic and Cold War-decorated Facebook page (and name), we wondered if MiG was sporting a Russian theme, but Hillard says not really. "It's a very loose Russian theme," he tells us. "it's more of a regular lounge — not particularly divey, not particularly formal — just a cozy little bar". The vibe is low-key, Hillard says. "People can dance, sit down and relax — if they fall asleep on the couch, that's fine".

MiG will serve 12 beers in bottles and cans, cocktails, and sangria. To kick off its opening, the bar will offer most of these drinks on special during June. For example, you can get red or white sangria or rail drinks for $4 from opening to close (6 p.m. to 3 a.m.) all this month. Entertainment-wise, Hillard says they plan to bring in DJs to spin on the weekends. Note that for now, MiG is cash-only.
