Merriweather Post Named One of Country's Best Amphitheaters

Six years can make quite the difference.

Just a few years ago, Columbia's Merriweather Post Pavilion was close to being shut down.  Now, it's been named one of the top three amphitheaters in the country by Billboard Magazine.

According to the Columbia Flyer, Merriweather was in the top three based on top-selling shows and actual box office performance for the past 12 months.

Originally opened in 1967, Merriweather was intended to be the summer home of the National Symphony Orchestra, but it has turned into one of the best places to catch some of music's hottest acts.

“It’s a place where bands love to play and people from all over the country love to go,” said Audrey Schaefer, spokeswoman for I.M.P., the Bethesda-based company that operates Merriweather.
