Mayor Declares Raheem DeVaughn Day

On Thursday, Mayor Gray will present R&B crooner Raheem DeVaughn with a key to the city and name the day is in honor. The local native, who was raised in Prince George's County and honed his chops in U Street clubs, is being recognized for his "efforts to preserve arts for children and teens, in addition to his efforts in fighting HIV/AIDS throughout Washington, D.C.", according to TBD.com.

DeVaughn has indeed been active in the community recently, appearing in an anti-bullying film shot at a local high school and also shooting a safe-sex PSA for the Act Against AIDS organization. Thursday's ceremony will be held on the steps of the Wilson Building (1350 Pennsylvania Avenue NW) at 3 p.m.
