Matthew Dear Turns House DJ

FRIDAY
Shapeshifter: From Detroit techno purveyor to future-pop crooner, Matthew Dear wears many hats, and tonight he'll try on another as a house DJ for U Street Music Hall's Red Fridays night. Free before 11 p.m.; $10 after. 10 p.m.

Dusty Grooves: Popular 14th Street bistro/lounge Marvin brings in DJ Deep Sang and New York disco dude Love on the Run for Disco Invasion, a night of dusty funk, early house, and Latin tunes. Be prepared to boogie. Free; 10 p.m.

SATURDAY
Songs 'N Jokes: Nick Thune, the guitar-strumming jokester who's appeared in Knocked Up and Comedy Central, performs Friday and Saturday at the Arlington Cinema 'N' Drafthouse. Expect dry sarcasm set to melody. $20; 9:55 p.m.

Hotel Party: After their 9:30 Club gig on Saturday, cheery Swedes Peter, Bjorn and John will DJ the official after party at W Hotel's rooftop POV Lounge. Bouncy tunes, great views— only downside is the drinks are a bit pricey. Free; 10 p.m. RSVP here.

SUNDAY
Sweet, Dude: In just a year, the Sweetlife Festival has gone from a Dupont Circle parking lot to the expansive Merriweather Post Pavilion. The Strokes headline, but expect Girl Talk to tear the place apart with a high-energy, confetti-strewn set. $55; 12 p.m.

Going out can be a gamble, so why leave it up to chance? Stack the deck every Friday by peeping Play's Weekend Bender.
