Montgomery Co. Teen Threatened School Shooting After Learning He Wouldn't Graduate: Court Docs

A Maryland teenager has been arrested and charged with threatening mass violence, police say.

Montgomery County police have identified the teen as Luis Amilcar Cabrera, a former student of Bethesda's Walter Johnson High School. He's 18 and was being held without bond. If convicted, he faces up to a decade in prison.

Cabrera was already banned from campus because of threats he posted online, according to court documents. He began posting threats after learning he wouldn't graduate due to absences.

Court documents detail threatening messages posted as early as February.

"I hope everyone at WJ [Walter Johnson] dies," one post said, according to court documents.

A Saturday police statement says Cabrera, of Rockville, posted a photo on social media in October showing him holding an AR-15 rifle with the words: "School shooter.'' Police say several students have also reported that Cabrera has posted messages about hating the school and threats to "shoot up'' the place.

Detectives obtained a warrant for Cabrera's arrest, citing threats and recent photographs. He was charged on Friday.

Two rifles and ammunition were found with Caberea when he was arrested, police say. Police believe he may have had access to more guns.

It wasn't immediately clear if Cabrera had a lawyer. Calls made to what appeared to be his family's Rockville address went unanswered.
