Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Preview

As the city prepares to unveil its new Martin Luther King Memorial on the Mall on August 28, it is inviting District residents to a special sneak preview. The government is offering a "limited number of tickets... available on a first-come, first-served basis" to check out the memorial on August 23 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. We Love DC reports that these tickets will be available from the city's website and also at the MLK Library at 901 G Street NW starting early next week.

The official memorial dedication on the 28th will feature a performance by Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin and, according to our friends at NBC Washington, appearances by "President Barack Obama, Stevie Wonder, Maya Angelou and many more". One day before, on the 27th, will be a march from Freedom Plaza to the King Memorial, promoting D.C. statehood and autonomy.
