Virginia native says he never signed a contract

2008 American Music Awards Arrivals

R&B singer Chris Brown’s efforts to get back in the hearts of fans took another hit this week. The Virginia-native won’t be appearing in a local concert Friday after all.

The concert was set to take place at the Field House in Spotsylvania County.

A representative for Brown told that the singer never signed a contract to perform at the event.

More than 200 tickets were already sold for $20 each, according to the Free-Lance Star.  The vendors selling them have agreed to offer refunds.

Some of the proceeds from Brown’s concert were set to benefit a local youth mentoring program, according to fliers found by .

In April, Brown headlined a benefit concert in Richmond. Proceeds from the “Virginia Stand Up! A Call to Action” show were donated the Central Virginia Foodbank and the American Red Cross for Haiti relief reported the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Brown was sentenced last August to serve five years probation and more than 1,400 hours of community service for assaulting pop star Rihanna.  He was also ordered to attend a year of domestic violence classes and stay away from his ex-girlfriend.

Brown’s lawyer told a judge in May that his client “completed all but one of his domestic violence classes,” according to TMZ.  He said Brown should be done with his community service by next year.

So far, Brown’s concert dates set for Europe this summer are still scheduled.
