Former first daughter Jenna Bush Hager and her husband, Henry Hager, have moved out of their South Baltimore rowhouse and put it up for sale, the Baltimore Sun reports.
The couple bought the two-story, 1880s rowhouse for $440,000 in March 2008 and moved in shortly after their wedding that May.
The house is now listed for almost $35,000 more than the sale price, a reversal of the real estate trend in their Riverside neighborhood (and many other places) where quick turnarounds are netting losses rather than gains for owners.
At $474,900, the asking price is also higher than any recent sale in the neighborhood in the same price range. Of the five homes that changed hands in or around the area in the last few months for $400,000 or more, none broke the $450,000 mark, the Sun reported, citing statistics from real estate search site Trulia.
The Bush-Hager rowhouse is a 3BR, 3BA end-of-group property with a private garage, exposed brick, wood floors and a two-level rooftop terrace, as well as unspecified “security features.” (The security system apparently did not do much to deter the thieves who swiped two Trek mountain bikes from the couple’s garage in June.)
As for the couple themselves? They’re in the wind, at least as far as the media goes. The realtor handling the sale won’t say and a Dallas spokesman for former President George W. Bush is also predictably mum on the matter.
The Sun was able to ferret out that Jenna Bush Hager is no longer working at the SEED School of Maryland, a public boarding school in Baltimore. She left a few months ago, SEED Foundation spokeswoman Laura O'Connor told the Sun.
In August 2009, Bush Hager also started work as a part-time correspondent for the “Today Show” out of NBC’s Washington bureau. The network did not respond to messages seeking comment about whether her television work prompted the move.
Henry Hager continues to work for Constellation Energy, Constellation spokesman Larry McDonnell confirmed this week. But McDonnell declined to say if Hager is still employed in Baltimore or if he’s working elsewhere for the energy conglomerate.
