Local Burger Joints Hungry For Nats’ Victory

Local restaurants cash in on Strasburg fever with new burgers

How do you know you’ve made it in Washington? When you have a burger named after you.

That means Washington Nationals star Stephen Strasburg is an A-list celebrity.

He’s got at least three burgers named after him -- after just one game in the big leagues.

Three burgers, one name: the Strasburger.

If you want to pull off a Strasburger Triple Play, you’ll have to head to Glory Days Grill, The Burger Joint, and Tortilla Coast.

Glory Days Grill has several area locations. Its version of the Strasburger features California-style guacamole (Strasburg is from San Diego, after all), as well as grill seasoning and red pepper rings. The restaurant claims to “bring the heat” with pepper jack cheese, too.

There are four area Burger Joint (BGR) locations. Their Strasburger features an all-American baseball twist: a hot dog. The dog sits on its burger, which features Vermont cheddar cheese. It sounds simple, but this Strasburger is full of meaning. The hot dog represents Strasburg’s debut with the Phoenix Desert Dogs last year. The cheddar cheese is “Syracuse Orange” in honor of his recent stint with the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs.  And a late addition -- the burger will also include 14 pickles, one for each strikeout in his first game.  Oh, and $1 from the sale of each $10.99 burger will go to the Children's National Medical Center in D.C.

You’ll have to go to Capitol Hill to enjoy Tortilla Coast’s Strasburger. There isn’t much subtly to this burger. Just two honey glazed patties, jack cheese, and fried onions. One catch: It's also known as "the every 5th day burger," since it will only be available when Strasburg is on the mound.
