The lawyer for the white supremacist accused of fatally shooting a guard at Washington's Holocaust Museum said his client's medical condition could make it difficult to bring him to court hearings.
James von Brunn, 89, is being treated at Butner Federal Medical Center in Butner, N.C.
Von Brunn was shot in the head after he allegedly shot a security guard at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum on June 10. He also has chronic medical problems.
Federal defender A.J. Kramer suggested in court Monday that the judge could hold a competency hearing at Butner if von Brunn is unable to travel to Washington. In the meantime, prison officials have been granted an extension until Jan. 2 to complete von Brunn’s psychiatric evaluation.
The next hearing in the case is set for Jan. 26. Von Brunn is not expected to be there.
