Highbrow Concept Meets Free Beer (Finally)

The new Midtown Loft: Disney World for grownups

Buffalo Billiards can bite it.

Sorry, was that harsh?

It's just that we're a little dazzled by this shocking "new" concept of the entertainment parlor. The new Midtown Loft (1219 Connecticut Ave. N.W.) is billing itself as D.C.'s very first, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to us considering we can tick off a bevy of like-minded venues (the aforementioned Buffalo, Rocket Bar, H Street Country Club -- we could go on).

At any rate, this space comes from the Good People at Fur Nightclub, Tattoo Bar, et al, so you know there's something at least vaguely fancy-pants about this joint. Sample from such highbrow entertainment as pool, foosball, megatouch video games and tabletop shuffleboard.

The massive open loft houses exposed brick walls (we'd expect nothing less from an "entertainment parlor," after all), bamboo floors, a handful of plasma TVs, Wi-Fi and a DJ booth. In other words, if you're looking for a good place to barricade yourself during a storm, put Midtown Loft on your shortlist.

Happy hour means free parlor games and $5 cocktails from 5 to 8 p.m. on weekdays -- about as good of a deal as you can expect in Dupont. But wait, maybe we spoke too soon. 'Cause draft beers are F-R-E-E- weekdays from 5 to 6 p.m.

Now we've just gotta wait for Buffalo Billiards to ante up. Then the real fun begins.
