HBO Returns to Baltimore for DC-Based Series

'Washingtonienne' is a half-hour comedy

HBO is returning to Baltimore -- for a new series set in Washington.

State officials say the pilot episode for a new series called "Washingtonienne" will begin shooting in the Baltimore area this fall. Some filming will also be done in the District of Columbia.

"Washingtonienne" is a half-hour comedy about three women working on Capitol Hill. It's loosely based on a book by Jessica Cutler, a young Capitol Hill staffer who was fired after blogging about her sex life.

The Washington Post reports that executive producer Sarah Jessica Parker was scouting locations in the District on Thursday.

But Maryland is claiming the project as its own. Gov. Martin O'Malley says it continues the state's long relationship with HBO, which produced "The Wire" and several other projects in the Baltimore area.

The show will be eligible for rebates under Maryland's film incentive program.
