Giant Easter Egg Plops Down on H Street NE

Egg will be cruising around in its pickup truck this weekend

A giant Easter Egg is making its presence known on H Street NE.

It's kinda hard to miss a thing like that, after all -- earlier on Tuesday, it was cruising down the streets, living large in the back of a pickup truck.

As of midday, the egg was comfortably ensconced at the corner of 12th & H, posing for Twitpics with fans and pretty much just being awesome.

The egg hatched from Capital City Church, located at 1333 H St. NE. "We’re trying to organize some activities around the egg, just trying to share Easter as a community experience," Executive Pastor Harrison Wilder told us.

He later added in an email: "Too often we feel that Easter is just inside the four walls of a church -- and we wanted to make it a celebration in the community, not just a building."

You'll likely spot the egg gallivanting to and fro in the coming days.

"This weekend, it’ll probably be on a truck, making some trips up and down H street with music and candy," Wilder said.

The egg will also stop off at some local restaurants, get decorated by the preschool set, and swing by a karaoke night, demonstrating a fairly active social life for an egg.

The egg's final stop will be at the Atlas Performing Arts Center on Sunday, April 8, where Capital City will host Easter services at 9, 10:15 and 11 a.m., as well as a flashlight Easter egg hunt for kids.

Follow the buzz on Twitter at #HStEaster for updates and incentives. The first 10 folks to take pictures of themselves with the egg today each scored a $5 giftcard to Sova.
