Fire Closes Friendship Heights Metro Station

About 100 passengers were on train

WASHINGTON -- The Friendship Heights Metrorail station temporarily closed to passengers Friday morning because of a train fire.

The fire was reported underneath a train at the station that was headed downtown.  About 100 passengers were on the train.  The station was closed for about 30 minutes.

Two people were transported to a local hospital.  One had breathing difficulties and the other had chest pains. The fire has been extinguished and the station re-opened at about 9 a.m.
