Columbus Crew...New York Red Bulls...there can be only one after the final whistle sounds in the MLS Cup final Sunday afternoon (3:30 EDT, ABC) at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Regardless of the result one team will lift the
Phillip F. Anschutz trophy for the first time.
In a lot of ways this will be a litmus test for the league and the way it crowns a champion. Columbus won the Supporter's Shield, handed out to the team with the best overall record (17-7-6, 57 points) and with it access to the CONCACAF Champions League.
Meanwhile, New York was fifth place in the East (10-11-9, 39 points). The Red Bulls lost their last game of the season and only backed into the playoffs as the No. 8 seed after DC United lost its last game.
