While I look forward to the day two years in the future when I send an e-mail blast to all my friends reminding them of the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's "Nevermind" -- and how old we've all become -- I'm really not ready for grunge to play on classic rock radio.
WJZW-FM became 105.9 The Edge at 10 a.m. Wednesday and promised to play classic rock for men who like to rock, leaving out all the softer, sappier songs most classic rock formats include. Expect Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Jimi Hendrix, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Rolling Stones, the Who, AC/DC and classic Van Halen. Also expect more recent classics from the likes of Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers and U2.

I was barely alive in the disco era, but when disco songs started showing up on oldies stations in the mid-'90s, I wanted to stage a revolt.
Seems like Guns 'n' Roses -- also promised by The Edge -- reached the classic rock playlists a decade after releasing "Appetite for Destruction." That just made me cry.
"THE EDGE is a station designed to offer listeners a wide variety of familiar, up tempo Classic Rock along with the biggest rock hits of the past twenty years,” Kenny King, operations director of Citadel Broadcasting’s D.C. cluster, said in Wednesday press release.

More puzzling, why did the release list Alice in Chains alongside Van Halen and Guns 'n' Roses instead of Pearl Jam and Nirvana?
D.C.’s listeners will hear everything from Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Jimi Hendrix, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rolling Stones and The Who to AC/DC, classic Van Halen, Alice In Chains and Guns N’ Roses. Plus, they’ll get a more modern feel from Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and U2.
