Next up: Eataly, Mario Batali's massive concept Italian eatery and market, located on the edge of NYC's Madison Square Park, is honing in on a D.C. address. The sticking point? It needs to be at least 30,000 square feet for dining and retail, and another 8,000+ for a rooftop beer garden, the Washington Post reports:
...[A]ccording to Michael R. Zacharia, senior vice president of retail services for CBRE, who is leading the search for Eataly in Washington. Zacharia said he has been looking for 60,000 square feet for Eataly and has narrowed the search to 'three or four locations.' All the sites are in the District.
Our first thought was with the space Barnes & Noble is due to vacate in Georgetown, but the murmurings seem to indicate that space might be destined for a Bloomingdale's.
Nonetheless, they are seeking a spot with high levels of foot traffic, and ideally, high ceilings as well. Save us some cannoli, would you?
