Do It Up Right: De*Nada's Good Hoods

Virginia Arrisueno is the mastermind behind the local knitwear brand De*Nada. Her infinity scarves, hooded cowls, and biker-chic arm warmers have made it all the way from D.C. to the Today Show and now she’s busier than ever. Arrisueno took a break to talk to us about her best-selling items and a special holiday collection exclusively for D.C. locals.

Which items in the collection have been top sellers?

The most popular items, by far, have been the hooded cowl [$68] and the eternal diamonds scarf [$58] in black/white and khaki/black. I think people love the hooded cowl because you can wear it in so many different ways and it’s so soft! We’re sold out of both right now but we’re getting new shipments in at the end of November, just in time for the holidays.

What’s business like during the holiday season?

The holiday season is nonstop. I work until very late every night. We’re even busy in January when people see what their friends got for Christmas and want the same.

Do you have any special events coming up?

I’m doing a capsule show at Redeem where I’ll be releasing a small holiday collection that’s designed exclusively for Redeem. It won’t be available anywhere except in the store. I’m nervous because I’ll be stepping outside of designing only scarves to making ponchos and capes, too.

When you’re not busy designing cozy knitwear for all of us, where do you shop?

Redeem on 14th Street. I love owner Lori Parkerson’s style and we both love the brand Funktional which incorporates leather into its designs. I also drool over Muleh, but I can’t really afford it so I mostly go there for inspiration.
