Dished: Black Squirrel Taking Over Toledo Lounge

  • Adams Morgan bar Toledo Lounge (2435 18th St. N.W.) has been sold to the owners of The Black Squirrel and Ventnor Cafe. New owners Amy Bowman, Tom Knott, and Scott Auslander don't plan to change Toledo's cozy dive bar feel much at all. "We love Toledo Lounge the way that it is," Bowman told TBD. "We're just going to spiffy it up a bit." Said spiffying will include a new beer list with a focus on craft brews and a revamp to Toledo's fries-and-wings bar menu to offer a few more casual modern American dishes. More details here.
  • The Feast's list of the Best Hotel Restaurants in America names CityZen in the Mandarin Oriental as a top pick for D.C. Few hotels are home to one critically acclaimed restaurant, let alone two (the other one is the southwestern-influnced Sou'Wester). CityZen offers modern American cuisine prepared by James Beard Award-winning chef Eric Ziebold.
  • When Keswick Vineyards invited The Feast to help out with the first bottling of their most recent batches of wine down in Kewswick, Virginia, they jumped at the chance. Little did they know the kind of work that goes into moving hundreds of gallons of wine into dozens (and dozens and dozens) of glass bottles.....
  • The D.C. dining scene got a late Valentine's Day present from the James Beard Foundation: the semi-finalist announcements for 2011. In all, nearly 20 local chefs and restaurants were named. José Andrés, the nationally acclaimed chef behind Jaleo, Zaytinya, Café Atlántico and the much ballyhooed Minibar, is up for Outstanding Chef in the U.S. See more nominees over at The Feast.
