Dished: Oscar-Inspired Cocktails

  • Bryan Ranere is not only the bar manager of Foreign Cinema in San Francisco, he also curates all of the classic films that are screened in the restaurant's courtyard. In honor of Sunday's Oscar telecast, he is shaking up drinks inspired by Best Picture nominees True Grit and Black Swan.

Watch the video to see how Ranere makes the True Grit and Black Swan cocktails, and then check out the easy recipes [PDF] for these as well as for two exclusive tipples he created for The Feast: Winter's Bone and The Social Network.

  • A 1K walk with wine pit stops? In what sounds like the worst idea ever (at least at first), the Crystal City Business Improvement District is partnering with the Washington Wine Academy to host a wine walk through Crystal City this weekend. Saturday is currently sold out, but Sunday spots are still available. Registration is online here and $30 per person, which gets you 20 tasting tickets good for one oz. of wine each. More details at The Feast.
  • Last night on "Top Chef: All Stars," in an unlikely turn of events, Dale Talde -- currently the creative director for Buddakan and all Asian concepts for restaurateur Stephen Starr -- was sent home. In today's post-mortem with The Feast, Talde brushed his shoulders off, looking forward to his temporary concept Bodega, which pops up in NYC this Saturday. Read the interview here.
  •  Swing by Public Bar (1214 18th St. N.W.) for the bar's new happy hour, which now runs from 4 to 8 p.m. Enjoy $2 domestic beers, $3 imported, and $4 rail drinks. More deals here.
