DDOT to Smooth Out City's Most Popular Bike Lane

Work planned for a busy stretch of 15th Street in D.C. will make rides smoother and safer for bicyclists.

Potholes, cracks, crevices and bumpy pavement make the city’s most popular bike lane a rough ride, but the D.C. Department of Transportation said it's trying to make sure the repairs don't slow down drivers.

For a car, the potholes might not seem like a big deal, but they are a different story for bikes.

DDOT hopes to start repaving a 1-mile section of the cycle track from K Street to Swann Street NW in the next month. The project will take about three weeks to complete.

Some say the cycle track also needs to be widened.

DDOT said it spends far more on roadway resurfacing, but the agency does say keeping bike lanes in working order is becoming more of a priority.

DDOT is still figuring out how to address the temporary bike lane closure from K Street to Massachusetts Avenue for cyclists.
