D.C.’s Top Taco Experiment

Amateur chefs battle it out with their best taco creations.


What do you get when you combine skillets, amateur chefs, Brooklyn Beer, and a ton of ground beef and cheese?

You get the tastiest experiment to hit the D.C. area since the invention of sliced bread... err, taco shells: The D.C. Taco Experiment.

Taking place in the Rock & Roll Hotel (1353 H St. N.E.), the D.C. Taco Experiment is a cooking competition that puts amateur chefs' taco creations to the test. Tacos of all shapes, sizes and tastes will duke it out until one remains. The winner will receive a cash prize and be sent to Brooklyn to compete for the national cook-off title.

The judging panel is led by Capital Cooking Show host Lauren DeSantis, Eater DC Editor Amy McKeevy, and Girl Meets Food editor Mary Kong.

But just because there’s a judging panel doesn’t mean no grub for you. Attendees not only get to vote for and taste every taco created, they also receive a Brooklyn beer to wash down the taco glory.

Participating chefs get a Whole Foods gift certificate to help with costs. An after-party event will be thrown at The Argonaut, where proceeds will go to the Capital Area Food Bank. Tickets to the event are $10 in advance or $15 the day of.

If one thing’s for certain, it’s that D.C. needs to experiment more often... preferably with delicious things.
