Big wins for local theaters

Washington theater's influence was recognized on a national stage.

The 66th annual Tony Awards was held last night in New York City, with a few nods to the District’s theater scene.

“Follies,” a musical playing at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, won best costume design and The Shakespeare Theater Company scored a regional Tony Award.

The Woolly Mammoth Theatre didn’t win an award but got mentioned for running “Clybourne Park” for the past few years. The production’s Broadway version took home this year’s “Best New Play.”
