D.C.'s Next Mayor: Let the Dogs Decide

The decision between Adrian Fenty and Vince Gray is up to the dogs.

D.C.’s Primary Election Day isn’t until next week, but early elections are now open to everyone, including your dog.

On Thursday, your furry family member can participate in the Paw Poll, the only election poll designed just for your dog. Little Fluffy, Sparky or Rover can vote for either Mayor Adrian Fenty or Council Chairman Vincent Gray via dog bone.

The Barkley Square Gourmet Dog Bakery & Boutique will donate 300 dog bones to the event. Each beige colored treat will be four inches long and decorated in the bakery’s delicious yogurt based Fido Frosting. Fenty bones will be green with white polka dots while Gray bones will be white with green polka dots. Once the treats are distributed, it will be up to the dogs to decide who the winner is.

The Paw Poll is a part of the pre-event kick-off to the fifth annual Walk for the Animals on Sept. 25. Every dollar raised from the walk will be donated to the Washington Humane Society and The Humane Society of the United States. The results of the poll will be revealed the next day on www.humanesocietywalk.org .

If you’d like your dog to participate in this year's election, bring him or her over to the 17th Street Dog Park (17th St. and S St. NW) between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. Thursday.
