RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A New Kent woman is facing charges after officials say she was caught with a loaded gun at Richmond International Airport.
Local news agencies report the Transportation Security Administration says in a news release that TSA officers found the .38-caliber handgun in the unidentified woman’s belongings on Saturday at a security checkpoint.
Officials say the gun was loaded with five bullets.
Airport police confiscated the weapon and arrested the woman. She is facing state weapons charges.
TSA agents say the woman, who is from Providence Forge, had a gate pass and was going to meet a child who was getting off a plane.
Anyone who brings firearms to the checkpoint is subject to possible criminal charges and TSA penalties up to $11,000.
