BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Virginia Tech is installing indoor emergency phones in buildings around campus.
The university announced Tuesday that 145 small blue call boxes that connect users to emergency dispatchers at the press of a button are being installed in central building locations this summer. The phones are being installed in academic and administrative buildings and all residence halls as part of an ongoing effort to improve safety and security on campus. More than 100 of the emergency phones have already been installed.
There are also more than 100 outdoor emergency phones equipped with a flashing blue light that is activated when the button is pressed.
