RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A leader in a regional economic development group says the Richmond area plans to make a strong regional push to try to lure Amazon to build its second North American headquarters in Virginia.
Hanover County Supervisor Angela Kelly-Wiecek, chairwoman of the board of directors at the Greater Richmond Partnership, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch she thinks the region has a good chance.
She would not provide information on the number of sites or where they are located. But she said officials are crafting “a very strong proposal together as a region.”
State officials would not release specifics, but praised officials across the state for working together to look for the best prospects.
Last month, Seattle-based Amazon announced plans to build a second headquarters that would employ 50,000 people.
Proposals are due Oct. 19.
