CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) — A police department in Virginia is resuming its rollout of body cameras for officers after the previous batch of body cameras overheated and had to be pulled from service.
Chesterfield County police Capt. Steve Grohowski tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch the department currently has about 240 body cameras on the street, and that more are being added weekly. Last year the department entered into a contract with law enforcement technology company Axon to secure body cameras for 450 officers.
The department initially began its rollout in early April, but the first batch of about 50 cameras were pulled after the cables between the camera and its controller overheated on several of the units.
Grohowski says Axon replaced the cables on all the cameras at no additional cost.
