Virginia Man, 81, Dies in Car Crash in Pittsylvania County

PITTSYLVANIA, Va. (AP) — The Virginia State Police says it’s investigating a solo car crash in Pittsylvania County which an 81-year-old man died.

State Police say the crash happened Monday around 2:30 p.m. State Police say the driver of a 1999 Dodge Ram was traveling north on Route 865 when he ran off the right side of the roadway, crossed the roadway and then ran off the left side of the roadway and hit a tree. State Police say the vehicle then caught fire.

State Police identified the driver of the vehicle as 81-year-old Willard Harrison Stoots of Dry Fork, Virginia. State Police say Stoots was not wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene.
