WASHINGTON (AP) — The American Legion wants to hear from veterans in the Washington area at their experiences about the city’s troubled Veterans Affairs hospital.
The veterans’ group is holding a town-hall meeting in the hospital’s auditorium on Wednesday evening. It says VA representatives will attend.
The meeting was prompted by a report issued earlier this month by the VA’s inspector general. The report found dangerous conditions at the hospital that were putting veterans “at unnecessary risk.” Problems at the facility identified by the inspector general included running out of supplies like vascular patches to seal blood vessels and tubes needed for kidney dialysis. The VA reassigned the hospital’s director after the report was made public.
