DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — The Latest on vandalism of Confederate monuments in North Carolina (all times local):
1:45 p.m.
Authorities say two Confederate statues in the coastal North Carolina city of Wilmington have been vandalized.
Wilmington police spokeswoman Linda Rawley Thompson says that early Wednesday, someone placed a rope around a statue known as the Confederate Soldiers Monument and may have been trying to tear it down. Officers reported that it seemed like the other end of the rope was meant to be tied to a car. The statue also was hit with spray paint.
And she says someone put paint on a second statue dedicated to a man who served as attorney general of the Confederacy.
No arrests have been made, but the vandalism is under investigation.

A fourth protester has been arrested in connection with the toppling of a Confederate statue.
The Durham County Sheriff’s Office issued a news release Wednesday afternoon that it had arrested Peter Gull Gilbert.
Two other protesters were arrested earlier in the day, and another was arrested Tuesday.
Each faces two felony charges related to inciting and participating in a riot, along with two misdemeanors.
The statue in Durham came down Monday night after a protester attached a rope and demonstrators on the ground then pulled the bronze Confederate soldier from its pedestal. The toppling followed deadly violence over the weekend during a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.
A group that organized the protest didn’t immediately respond to messages Wednesday seeking comment on the arrests.

A North Carolina sheriff has arrested more protesters in connection with the toppling of a Confederate statue.
Durham County deputies took two people away in handcuffs Wednesday at a court hearing for another demonstrator who was arrested the previous day.
A news release identified them as Dante Strobino and Ngoc Loan Tran. On Tuesday, Takiyah Thompson was arrested at a news conference where she identified herself as the woman who climbed the statue and attached the rope used to pull it down.
All three face felony charges related to inciting and participating in a riot that damaged property. Investigators plan more arrests.
