Temporary Closures on Beltway, I-66 for Tolling Construction

FALLS CHURCH, Va. (AP) — Authorities are closing parts of the Capital Beltway and Interstate 66 in Northern Virginia overnight Wednesday and Thursday as part of the I-66 Express Lanes project.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says the closures support installation of tolling infrastructure on I-66 inside the Beltway, which will allow solo drivers to use I-66 during rush hour if they pay a variable toll.

On Wednesday, single-lane closures will begin at 9:30 p.m. on eastbound I-66 between Va. 7 and Glebe Road. All eastbound lanes will close for 20-minute intervals between midnight and 4 a.m. Thursday.

On Thursday, the Beltway’s Inner Loop will be closed near the Route 50 exit. Again, single-lane closures will begin at 9:30 p.m. and all northbound lanes will close in 20-minute intervals between midnight and 4 a.m. Friday.
