Storm Sweeps Through Area Leaving Thousands Without Power

WASHINGTON — Power outages swept through the area Thursday evening as a storm brought hail and severe weather.

As of 6:50 p.m., Dominion Virginia Power reported close to 7,400 outages, including more than 2,900 in Spotsylvania County, close to 2,070 in Fauquier County and more than 1,900 in Loudoun County.

The Rappahannock Electric Cooperative is reporting more than 800 customers are out of power as of 7 p.m. with over 600 customers in Clarke County and more than 200 in Warren County.

Potomac Edison is reporting 600 outages around 7 p.m. among customers in Allegany, Garrett and Washington counties in Western Maryland.

In West Virginia, Potomac Edison is reporting more than 36,000 outages.
