Steam Explosion Injures 5 in Baltimore

WASHINGTON — Five people were injured Tuesday evening after an explosion under a street in Baltimore.

The Baltimore Office of Emergency Management said the underground explosion was caused by a steam pipe under South Eutaw Street, near Camden Yards.

Baltimore Fire said via Twitter that five people were hurt. There’s no word yet on the extent of their injuries. South Eutaw, Lombard and Pratt streets are all blocked in the area, and Baltimore officials are asking people to stay away.

Video posted to Twitter shows the road broken apart and a huge column of steam shooting up.

The Orioles game at Camden Yards, a few blocks away, started on time.
