RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — State Police are increasing patrols this holiday weekend to keep revelers safe.
State Police said they will join officials across the country starting Friday in a national program aimed at reducing crashes and saving lives. They’re urging drivers to always wear their seat belt and never drive impaired.
State Police Superintendent Col. W. Steven Flaherty said Virginia has witnessed an “alarming number” of fatal crashes in the past couple of weeks.
Virginia troopers arrested 96 drunken drivers during the 2015 Fourth of July holiday weekend. They also cited 828 people for failing to wear a seat belt.
