State Del. Rick Morris Defends Himself in Facebook Statement

SUFFOLK, Va. (AP) — After reporters were banned from his recent child abuse hearing, Del. Rick Morris posted a statement on Facebook to supporters saying he’s confident he will be “completely vindicated.”

Media outlets report that in the statement, posted Monday, Morris says he was “falsely accused” of seven misdemeanors and seven felonies, one of which he still faces.

The 48-year-old lawmaker is accused of harming his stepson. However, Morris says the boy “admitted to being untruthful” to police and the doctor who interviewed him. He says his wife had asked him to help discipline the child.

Morris says a transcript of last week’s hearing will show “enormous inconsistencies” between what the child alleged and the physical evidence. Media outlets cannot confirm Morris’ description because a judge barred reporters from the hearing.
